This year I am constantly evaluating my spiritual condition. I was having an interesting conversation with someone and they brought up a subject that has been pondering thoughts within. They made a statement that they wasn't ready. When are we ready? I find that most of the time when I believe that I am ready to take on additional responsibility or an new endeavor I am not ready. I say to myself often that I am not ready because something within brings about an uncomfortable feeling or it may require surrender in areas of my life that I am not willing to let go of yet. How could this be? I should be living a life of commitment to Christ, therefore I should be ready to take on whatever He calls me to. My dependence should never be on my abilities, talents, or giftedness, but in Christ Jesus. I have failed in many areas of life because my dependence was in worldly things. I believe that over the years I have missed out on many opportunities because I refused to trust God and relied on self effort. I have taken "try" out of my vocabulary, and replaced it with "trust". God determines when I am ready today. My goal is to dare to do the impossible and that entials wherever, and whatever God has for me. The people in the bible didn't do extraordinary things because of anything special that they did humanly. They accomplish great feets because of their faith. I have failed many times in life, but that will not stop me from striving to live for Jesus, and to touch the world with his gospel. I am believing today in my heart that the best is yet to come. Some great things are happening and doors are opening; not because of me, but because I am in a place that I dare to do the impossible through Christ Jesus.
Knowing whether you are ready is not the same as being prepared or being available. If a person says she is not ready to take on a husband or a relationship it is different from saying I am not available to go wherever God whats me or I am not willing to do whatever God has for me to do. God provides many opportunities for us to be fruit inspectors; that of ourselves and others. As mature Christ followers we can inspect our behaviors and fruit to determine of we are equipped for a relationship or not. That is not to say that if God provides or sends a mate we would turn him or her away, but rather, that you do not trust yourself to choose. Sometimes we cause our own dramas and failures because we take on solid food when we are just babies who need the nourishment that only milk provides.
ReplyDeleteNovice Christians are often excited about doing the work for the Lord without the necessary armor. Remember the story of a man rebuking demons and the demons replied who is this? They knew the power that came with Jesus' rebuke and Paul's, but this man had none (Acts19:15). And, the demons jumped on him.
It doesn't take rocket science to assess if you are ready to take on the self-less, unconditional responsibility of a mate. Not to mention the now un-distracted devotion you once had towards God. Read Paul's account in I Corinthians 7:33-35. Being able to say that you are not ready for a relationship is not saying you are not available for God to perform His perfect work in you.

ReplyDeleteI want to thank you for taking the time to comment on the blog "Dare To Do The Impossible". Your comments has brough me to further investigate the scriptures regarding the topic in which I truly believe God place on my heart. "Are You Ready" It seems to me that you have seperated in into catagories like relationships -vs- ministry. As I pondered last night about the various individuals in the bible God called them each to different task, but first called them to a relationshop with Himself. God determined if they were ready for the assignment or not, and He knew their weaknesses, and strengths. He called Abraham to leave his country in Genesis. He called Noah to build a boat in Genesis when it never rained. He called Jeremiah to preach even though he didn't want to. The same was true with Jonah. Let get deeper. He called the Samaritian woman on the carpet about her lifestyle. God made the call and the individuals are the ones who had to accept. How do we know when we are ready for a particular task. We don't. Read
Jeremiah 17:5-11. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Once last comment. We are not to compartmentalize our relationship with Christ. God's wants every part of us. Everything that we do we are suppose to do in in honor of God. We get caught up on the mature Christians. How can we say that we are mature when we learn the word obedience. God uses the mature as well as the babes in Christ, and it all starts with the heart. Am I ready? I don't know, but I do know the one who does - God. My prayer for myself is that God shapes and molds me according to whatever, and wherever he want me to go and be for Him.
